Project 04 prelim

Hi Guys,

Here is my first concept:

c1-3.png
c1-4.png
c1-5.png

For this concept, the audience first is directed to a landing page with nothing but the program logo. With a click on the logo, they enter the "program overview" page, where they will find a short description of the program and a nav bar leading to other sub pages. I was going for a David Carson-esque collage feel, and while I think I didn't achieve that I like the minimal, kinda classy, but still messy feel it has. Using type as a design element seemed appropriate for this program.

and here is my 2nd concept:

This concept was super fun to build. It started with a Memphis-inspired idea but quickly transformed into something both mod and contemporary. I love the monochrome color scheme and the font as well. Unfortunately, after thinking about it, I realized the background, with all of its strategically laid out forms creating the whole composition, is probably suited best for print or another static medium. Just thinking about coding media queries for this design gives me anxiety. So I will probably stick with concept 01 to code.

Cant wait to hear all your feedback!

Oh that type pile one! Coooool.

Needless to say, I like your first design better. It's so gently chaotic. It has a fuzzy feel to it. It almost seems like it's vibrating. And that navigation. It's all over the place and yet somehow I can still read it. Perfectly expressive right on the very edge of legibility to sell that expressiveness and yet it does. I like how the type pile gets denser and denser the deeper you go, darkening into a proper content background. The design makes great use of contrast and let's the colors in the images serve as the colors for the layout. As expected with a design that makes shapes out of type, your type is perfectly selected. It has a fun, uplifting quality to it. It brings a smile to your face. Good photo selections too. They really reinforce the content and give a pictorial idea of what students will be up to in the program. The gallery looks good too. Showing students what they'll learn how to create if they work had enough.

I'd recommend putting something on the home page other than the logo to help guide the user in. It might be just a pointer that gets them scrolling down, or a cleanly spaced line or two of descriptive type. Just enough to tell them where they are and what they're doing. Like a little taste, or a movie trailer.

Great work, Kiana.

Hi Kiana,
I really like your second design, the colors work well together and the graphics add a lot of visual interest. The only thing I would add is some text on the gallery page about the art, so that there’s more to it. Good job!

Hello Kiana,
These look amazing! I love the first design; it gives me 1920s vibes. I love the fonts, colors, and the website seems easy to navigate. I agree with Michael where I would show an arrow or something on the home page, so we'd know how to get to the next slide. Great job!

Hi Kiana, I love how much you played with typography in your first one, it creates such a cool pattern. I really like how the student gallery is laid out with the overlapping. Great work!

Hi Kiana,
These designs are both so great. I love all of the chaotic type that reminds me of the typography class in the first design and I love your color scheme and and the little details of shapes and lines that you used in your second. I think for your first design, because you already have so much going on with the type in the background and you made GA&MT look very look, you could pull back on the navigation and have that be your more standard looking rather than having them be also somewhat jumbled. With all that black and white, while a classic combo, to bring in even more of the TMCC brand, it would be great if you could get some green throughout your design as an accent color.

Hello Kiana,

Great concepts, I like how the first one relies on contrast and the I like the monochrome color scheme on the second. For me, I'd prefer the second over the first but the navigation is hard to read.

Hi Kiana!

Wow, both of your designs are so unique and fun to look around! I think I definitely favor the second one. It's overall just so elegant but still very artsy and creative. I think the first one is incredible too, but the font is just a little hard to read in some places. Really incredible designs!

Hi kiana,

Wow you created such awesome designs. I love high contrast designs so I'm leaning towards your first concept. It has such a creative feel to it and I really like how it makes the gallery art stand out. Very nice job. I'm excited to see your final website.

Hi Kiana,

Both designs are fun and so unique in their own way and I honestly cannot choose as they both have their strengths and so much potential. Of course the first set is chaotic and fun while the second has a bit of that with so more creative elements. It feels like a choice between geometric and organic elements honestly. I do agree with you about being afraid with the elements in the second design, it’s a lot haha. But whichever way you go, I know it’s gonna look great.
