Updated! Project #3 - Preliminary Roughs, Donna Harn

Post by donnalouwho »

Hi all,
Here are my two roughs for project 3. I learned a lot from Project 2, the hard way. Hope this comes together easier and faster as a result! :D
Theoretically, the "Program Overview" in design #1 will be in a scroll box. Not sure that is a good idea or not? In the second design, I have shown the "Program Overview" page and the "Gallery" page.

Hi Donna. I prefer the second set, it is more visually interesting with the header image and the art projects displayed. You might consider using more vibrant colors, they seem a little muted for an art site.

Heya Donna.

The computer screen you chose on your first design is spectacular, and it has this simple, elegant feel that's really appealing. Because it is for a GC program, it might be a good idea to include some graphics though. Having a scrollbar in your content area would work fine too, I think.

Your second design has a better use of color and the header image is great. I'm not sure why you have that empty black section under your links, though? I'd almost recommend putting some kind of border around your pictures.

Wow! I think that both of your layouts are just great! The second one stands out more for me because of your graphic elements that you used! I just love how both pages look and the way you made your navigation! Great job on both of them.

Hello Donna,
The second round of layouts looks better to me just because it has more imagery related to the program and how you had your own work into the layout although i am agree with the other critique, may be you need add some color in order to make it more interesting.

Hi Donna - This is tough, because I see potential in both. I think you could go with either concept, but my biggest concern right now is a lack of color. When I think of graphic design, I think in terms of color. Your monitor concept has very little color right now, and you've washed the color out of your second design. If you can find a way to bring it back, I think you're on your way.

Thanks for the feedback! I have redone the design I like best based on the comments, please let me know your thoughts! I like it much better more vibrant. I also think I prefer without the box around behind the text.
Thank you! :)

Yes, your redesign makes a huge difference - the color is back! I agree, I like it without the box around the content, but you could still use it as an accent for other areas within the content that you want to highlight. It does give a nice big pop.

Hi Donna, I really like the second design and the redesign is even better. I like that you decided to keep the images saturated.

layout two, when I look at layout one I feel like I'm in computer screen-ception.
