All of your ideas seem pretty similar so I would just do what Michael said and combine your ideas. I would try to tweak your layout more so it looks more organized. Also do you have a bigger version of your rough? It's really hard to read your text.

Both of these designs look amazing! I have more of a preference for the first design though since it seems more academic. I would also make the font color for the bottom links a little darker.

I really love you second design! It looks very stylish and clean. I would just lower the transparency on the star background so the text is easier to read.

I would go with your second design. The colors are much easier on the eyes and the layout is much cleaner. I don't think you need the grey boxes in the middle of the second page. I would also make the font color on the bottom links darker so they would be easier to see.

I think your second design is much stronger than your first. The navigation is much easier to read. With the text box though I would make it more transparent. For your navigation I would make it look more like a navigation bar rather than have the text just floating.
