I think I prefer your first design as I get an immediate feel of creativity from it. Your second design is organized and I like the ease of navigation, but is a little less intriguing. In your first design, you might play around a bit more with typography. There are some cool fonts out there that I think could represent graphics a little better. I think the bright colors and gray play well together.

Hey Kristen!

I would go with your second design. The colors are much easier on the eyes and the layout is much cleaner. I don't think you need the grey boxes in the middle of the second page. I would also make the font color on the bottom links darker so they would be easier to see.
