I like your version 2 a bit more. I find it easier to pull the information out of the page and it just feels cleaner. I think in your other version the background is a bit too busy to easily read the type against it. However in the second version I'm not sure that I like the different colors for your navigation buttons.

Hi Micheal, I don't have opinion for you because they are both really nice and I can see both of them as a website. Maybe you can do both and use the one top one for portfolio? Nice Job!
