hi guys,
Here's my rough concepts for project 1. I wanted to use this website to showcase my previous graphics projects, like a portfolio site. For this reason both of my concepts have gallery grids displaying work. At this stage, some of them are just placeholders. I tried to lay them out too so that I can add more images later if I want to.
My first concept is pretty minimal, with lots of white space. I wanted my name to be able to grab attention without being large or ostentatious, so I thought giving it lots of breathing room on the left side was a solution. The grid here is fairly loose, with even spaced borders between each image. The "ABOUT", "CONTACT", and "INSPIRATION" tabs here are intended to be dropdowns, not separate pages. This is demonstrated in the third image below.
My second concept still has alot of white space, but I carried the red stripe in my logo throughout the page as a design element. The overall feel of this concept is brighter and busier, but still clean. The "ABOUT", "CONTACT", and "INSPIRATION" sections are listed below the gallery. The viewer scrolls down to see them. The gallery in this concept is tighter, with evenly-sized frames around each image.
My two inspirational pages for this project are:
https://rauluriasart.com and http://www.joshuanoom.com
I find both of these pages inspiring because I find the art and design work that they display to be inherently inspiring. Raul Urias' work is vibrant and full of life. I love the movement and energy of his illustrative style. I think using a compact grid allows all the colors to play off each other and the varying sizes of each image creates an interesting rhythm. The overall effect is energetic.
The work of Joshua Noom lends itself to a simplistic site because it allows his work for to speak for itself. The uniformity of his grid is visually very pleasing. I also like his about page. His bio is extremely short and uses the third person voice. It leaves the viewer wanting more in my opinion.
Hopefully you enjoy!

Hi Kiana!
I really love the colors you used for both of your designs! I think they all compliment each other really well and give a good vibe for your work. I think I like the second design a bit more, especially for the layout! Your work stands out a bit more and I think the way you've placed everything is really solid!
Awesome design, I can't wait to see what you do for your final website : )

Hello Kiana,
These look really good! I like how you are presenting your work on the home page. I like the second layout more because I think it shows your work more clearly. However, if you were to go for the first layout, it might look good to put a line on the top portion, so it will lead to your projects a bit more. Great job!

Hi Kiana,
I like your second design the best. I really like the way the red white look together. The red is not overpowering at all. I also like the font you used for your name at the top. I would work on the font style for the rest of your text or make it a little larger as it is a little hard to read because it is pretty small. Nice job!

Hi Kiana,
I really like both of your designs! I like how you included your designs in your layout. They're really great! I do prefer your second layout the best though. I think that the only thing that I would modify would be your name. I think that the look of it is super cool, but it is a little hard to read. Maybe you could modify it a little bit so it becomes a bit easier to read?

Hello Kiana,
Your website designs look very professional, and I prefer the first website since my eye flows through the whole design without stopping. The second website is similar, but the red line stops my eye, which changes the flow. Good job!

Oh I really like that first design, Kiana. It's clean. Like surgical clean.
When you make a design this simple, it's really made or broken by it's layout and this one has a great layout. It uses margin perfectly, making content pods and then linking them up by visual placement. Your navigation and site info are little moons orbiting the planet of your design sample imagery. Your navigation is easy to see and use. It has no color so it gets out of the way and lets the imagery provide all the color, almost like it's a scrap book. I think my very favorite bit of this thing though is your unusual typeface you've chosen. It's as clean and easy to read as the rest of the layout, but it's visually different enough to provide visual interest.
My only nitpicks are alignment related. Your "Project 2" button appears to be slightly indented to the left compared to your "Project 1" and "Project 3" buttons on your computer layout. I'd also recommend shifting your "GRC 175 Web Design & Publishing I" text slightly to the left so that it's right edge matches the right edge of the design sample imagery.
Great work!

Hey Kiana,
I think you were able to accomplish your intentions. Both of your concepts look like something for an art gallery, and they look great. It does make it challenging which one you should continue working with. If your go with the first one on your web page, you should align your name and "GRC WEB DESIGN ..." and make them a bit more away from the edges as maybe a fix. For the second, maybe give your artwork some space or a border between them like how you did with the first concept.

Hi Kiana,
I'm really liking the layout for your first rough. Your name does stick out and I like the white space. Only add Spring 2021 .

Hello Kiana!
I love the clean and simplistic feel to both of your websites! I also like that you've added some of your own work to make it more personable. They all work really well together and showcase your work well. Personally, I I'm a fan of your first rough. I feel that the red takes away from some of your work and that color doesn't really fit with your designs. The first rough is simple and doesn't take away form that. Great work!
