project 1 prelim

Post by Genevieve Dierenga »

hello

For both concept designs I tried to go for a very bubbly and welcoming kind of vibe. So for fonts I used very well still being expressive and rounded edges was still legible. The font I used for my body copy and my sub head was Macho. I really like this font family has 16 or so different fonts I can choose from and there's so many options so I use it a lot. And since this is my website I figured I should probably use my favorite font. I also try to use very bright colors but now that I'm looking back at it after I've uploaded it and moved it around my monitors I feel like the coloration is all the same value and I need to fix that later I didn't realize my main monitor had a filter on at the time. I also wanted a very easy way to navigate the page so in my first one all of the links are at the very top before my name and for the second one I want to do like a slide out bar that when you hover over it comes out with the project resources and anywhere else I would need to navigate to.

the first website in my list is a designer and an illustrator and I really like the way her website is formatted in the sense that it shows all the things she's able to do for you and you can see the work she's done I also like that a lot of the pictures are animated in some way even if it's just a slight zoom in or side to side motion to give it more influence. I also love as you Scroll down the page the squares that hold the pictures almost breathe as you Scroll down and it's a very that's fine to watch.

The second website I chose is for a 3D designer and someone who also does type when scrolling through your page they also have animated pictures and windows as you Scroll down the page making it a lot more interesting. this is one thing that both of the pages have in common, and I would really like to learn how to do. As you Scroll down the page you can see all the different collaborations and projects they have done almost like a gallery. the menu is also very easy To navigate and easy to find.

two web site I found Interesting:

Hello Genevieve!

Great use of pastel colors. I like both versions of the project. I would just have one suggestion for the mobile versions... Instead of having the buttons (project 2-4), I would replace them with a hamburger menu. This will allow more space on the mobile version of the site. Overall, you did a great job. I look forward to seeing the final version of your project.
Warm Regards,

Hi Genevieve! I like both these designs, I think the white and purple complement each other better, and the green added gives me SpongeBob vibes with the waves if that makes sense. Great job!

The second one is more interesting to me! That use of the waves really gives the website a good personality

Lol! Your self portrait is wearing a bag. Fantastic, Genevieve! I think I like your first design the best.

I really like how strong your header and footer are on this design. They make for such a great frame for the whole composition. And then you cheekily break out of the frame by suspending your title down through the header. Excellent! Love to see stuff break out of it's boxes. I also like how your title has an identically colored drop shadow and your header, almost like it's smearing the header along with it. The pastel purple, gray, and white color scheme works well together and has good contrast across the whole design. Good type choices too. I like that you limited yourself to two typefaces and then played with weights to establish hierarchy. You use margin well in your computer design everything has room to breathe and you play with proximity to establish stucture.

Watch your margins on your mobile version. Your text and header are getting awfully close to your image. You have a lot of vertical room to play and such nice margins on your computer version. Maybe stick the image above your type in a column? Either way you need to vertically distribute your content a little better on your mobile layout as well.

Good work!

Hi Genevieve!
I honestly love both of these designs. I'm obsessed with the colors you used in both layouts. My favorite layout would be the first one; it has plenty of room for links and is easy to follow. I love the typefaces you choose for the first design. The only thing I would change or fix would be the capitalization of the tabs. Home and resources are not capitalized; projects and references are capitalized. I would make all of them capitalized at the beginning or all lowercase. Everything else is amazing! :D

Hello Genevieve!

I really enjoy the colors in both submissions, pastel is a favorite of mine and they work well together. The only thing I can see is that your "about me" and body of text are cut off by your links in the green desktop rough. Fun design!

Hi Genevieve,
I really like both your designs however I like the second on better. I think the use of pastel colors was really nice and allows your information and image to really pop off the page. I think for this design finding a way to incorporate the links into the page could really bring it together as opposed to having them on a pop-up.

Hey Genevieve!
Love the first design. My favorite part is definitely your name header it looks so organized and also blends the areas of your designs together extremely well. I think the only thing on your design is maybe to shorten the text frame on the mobile version, just to add better margins for a mobile layout. Great work!
