Project One-Prelim

Post by Laura »

Hello! I designed my website layouts to be bright, colorful and I eye catching. I choose colors and photos that are appealing. I tried to intentionally place items for your eye to go in the correct flow, making sure everything is very clear and simple to understand. I wanted to be a little creative and fun. These colors and design and very much me. I played around with a handful of type to see what looks the best, trying some flare and then very legible type to be easy to read. I used photoshop and illustrator. In the beach themed one, I did not put a picture of myself to let some room to breath, but considering MAYBE a small picture of me, if it looks right with the space, but not wanting to over crowd.

Here are two websites that I found inspiration:
https://www.alingwenphotography.com/
and https://www.fullyraw.com/
For these websites I love the flow, the photos used, the organization, the brightness and all of the colors. I felt happy and intrigued.

Laura,

These are fantastic. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that this isn't' your first rodeo. I love how you reversed the gradients on your name and the sky in the tropical version.
You made amazing use of that camera back.
I can't choose a favorite here.

Cheers!

Hello Laura,

I love the second design so much! Makes me wish I was on vacation instead of being in cold Nevada. Everything is so fun and creative, and the use of color flows perfectly. Maybe try a hamburger menu on the mobile view? Even though that would take away from the fun direction sigh, so thats a tough call. It would allow your bio area to be larger though, so just depends on what you want most in the end. Great work, love how creative it is.

Oh! Were having fun with skeuomorphism, here. I like your first one where you're taking a timed selfie.

Two things really stand out about it. One, the depth and dimensionality of it. Especially on the computer layout where everything is really overlapping. That depth adds a lot of visual interest. Two is your texture. A lot of the critical elements have a texture to them which serves to draw the eye to them. Your pic, the navigation, the camera that frames your bodycopy. All of them have a texture to them that draws the eye among the cleanliness of the rest of your layout. The whole thing has good contrast as well. What needs to sand out stands out and what doesn't, doesn't. Nice choice of colors as well. They remind me of Native jewlery colors and give the whole thing an outdoorsey southwestern feel. Your nav is easy to find and use as well.

The only real things I see that would stand improvement are a couple of margin issues. One, add a little more leading to your bodycopy so it's not so crammed into place. It just needs a little room to breathe. Two, your text is crowding the edge of your nav buttons on your computer layout. I prefer the non script buttons, so I'd recommend enlarging your buttons to a common size that fits your widest text and then centering your text in your other buttons.

Nice work!

Hello Laura,

You have such fun designs! I think the first one is so clever because you use the imagery as a text box. The beach one is fun as well but some of the type gets lots with the different blues. Maybe try moving around the class name and your email; it's a bit hard to read sideways.

Hello! I absolutely love the wooden sign idea to help the direction of the website. The water theme is very vibrant and I'm just a fan of pastels so my only personal recommendation would be to desaturate the colors a bit but other than that it all looks great!

I really like the first designs I think having the body text on the camera is a nice touch and the color choice is really nice. I think the design shows a little more of your personality than the second design which adds a lot to it. I really like the font choice and the navigation is laid out very well, I also like how you added your cutout to the N it’s really creative and it looks good! Awesome job!

I love the artistic style you went with your beach website, I’d love to see more trees either hand drawn or pasted. Both could work too it could make it interesting

Hi,

I really like the second design. Your background picture is great. The blue of the ocean is beautiful and with the the palm trees are great. It looks really great and can't find anything to say that you need to improve.

Hello,

I like that the two versions of your web design are diverse and mixed. The first design is impressive with the big logo, your picture, and camera. Also, I think you made good use of the confounding color. And your type arrangement is easy to see. And it's nice that your information and layout are accurately divided. The second design uses the beach to give a cool feeling. I like it because it has a bright feeling unlike the first design.
