Hi everyone,
Below are my final drafts for project 1. I decided to go with the second design as I feel it's more geared towards the type of websites I enjoy looking at. I checked out different fonts and added some simple borders to my photos just to clean it up. Overall I'm happy with it and feel it's a good first step into the world of web design. I really enjoyed this project and having to figure out what ways I could express myself through a homepage on a website.
After looking through numerous websites for basic inspiration, I found some articles and key resources that helped me. One article broke down the elements of web design, and what usually works when attempting to capture the viewer. Siteinspire however, is just a website full of photos of websites. It was nice to go back to when I felt stuck to get a breath of fresh air and see how many possibilities there were with this project.
Listed are some websites I found helpful and/or cool:

Hi Carlos,
I like the layout of your design, I like the pop of orange in each of the three sections, creates unity and a nice line from the top left to the bottom right. The black and white color choice was also bold and I think you made it work!
Great job,
Rebekah

Hi Carlos,
Good job on your layout, I like the black and white motif, kinda looks like watching an old movie. The navigation looks a little crammed up but that can be fixed with CSS, other than that, great job. Oh yeah, I like the spider at the top of your mobile design.

Hi Carlos,
These photos are eye-capturing. I might change up some fonts for more hierarchy but great work overall. Nice work with he orange and black its a nice contrast.

Hi Carlos.
I like your layout. The photographs you have as your background look pretty cool. I love the sense of contrast you created with black and withe. The buttons on the navigation bar might need a little more spacing. They look a little cramped. Other than that, great job.

Oh this came out pretty nifty, Carlos. It looks like an indie album cover.
Those photos really are the strength of this composition. You've done a great job picking them out. They immediately establish the vibe of this whole website. I can see it, I can hear it, I can feel it, I can practically smell it. You took that photo texture and offset it with a very minimal color palette. Black, white, and a highlight of orange here and there work well. The spots of orange immediately draw the eye and highlight bits throughout. Most notably your bodycopy and class info. I assume the rollover color will be that orange as well. Great use of contrast on this thing as well, as would be expected from such a color palette. Your header makes for a great frame to all this as well, establishing the structure of your layout.
Your navigation looks like one long line. I assume your using rollover colors to differentiate the buttons? I think they would have looked a little better if they had some more space between them. The transparent white box behind your bodycopy needed to have some more padding between it and the edges of your type. As it is, it's a little close. I think your computer layout would have looked better if the images went all the way across instead of ending just shy of the left edge. Where's that cool spider from your mobile design on your computer design?
Not bad!

Hey Carlos!
I really like your desktop version of the design. I think the mobile version needs more of that cool collage look. I like your fonts and your layout. The black and white pictures mixed with the orange boxes and text is really cool. I think your body text should be bigger and a different font.
