Project 3 Preliminary Work

Post by rena_w0327 »

Hi guys, it's Rena back early from an all-nighter. Don't worry I promise I'll sleep...at some point. Anyways! Here's my concept work for Project 3, I not only wanted to keep a lot of the design choices from the original TMCC website in my design but also make it a "dark mode" which I've been wanting since day one. Consider this a protest for a dark mode! While staying in tune with the original design it was important to keep this layout simple. A lot of people come to the TMCC website for information, not entertainment so I considered that greatly.

Hi Rena,
I really like your designs and you went all out and designed all 5 pages, good on you. However, in your Dark Mode, it is really hard to read. Other than that, good job.

Don't worry, Rena. You can sleep when the semester is over. Though I think you overworked yourself on this one. I was just looking for a homepage and a sample inner page, not your whole site. At least you have it all laid out now.

I'm not seeing a tremendous difference between your two designs, but I prefer you first one. It feels cleaner and sharper and uses margin a little better. That's really what stands out to me about it. The cleanliness and professionalism. It has good structure and is super informational. The dark gray helps make the TMCC green almost an acceptable color. Quite a victory given how terribad it is. I like how you use it as an accent color. It's almost redeeming it. Your type is well chosen, too. Super clean and professional. Your navigation is well placed and should be easy to use. I'm also vaguely terrified at what class Walter White would teach in our program! Maybe the printing class.

The big change that these NEED is to make the bodycopy much more visible against the background. Right now it's vanishing. I think simply making the bodycopy white will solve all your problems. Maybe play with making your headlines TMCC green. I'd also add more imagery in here. I'm looking for something that advertises the department as much as it informs. You've got info on lock. Now I'd like to see a little more pizazz.

Not bad at all!

Hello Rena,

I like your designs! Both are super flushed out. The dark mode is definitely a struggle lol, and that dark design is what I prefer, but there is a big contrast issue on the black on gray. I dont know if white text would be the best idea, but play around with it!
