Project 1 Layouts

Post by Juan Vazquez Lopez »

Hi guys, here are my two layouts for this first project, I had a hard time choosing the colors on both of them but finally I think got them.
Please feel free to critique them and to give me some advices in order to make some improvements.

Hey Juan- Nice work on your roughs! I really like the first rough, the colors and layout seem to go together very well. An idea that I have was maybe do something about the floating head bit…like add something below it, you can even add the entire photo of you and it might look nice. May I remind you that this is coming from someone who’s one of their roughs have a bunch of floating heads on it….lol- any who- good work buddy

Nice work, man :) I like colors from second one, but the layout from first image. I think your orange photograph will work better, cause it s easy to recognize your face. Also like your type face over your head in first one.

Hi Juan - I really like your first design, and I think the color scheme is vibrant. Who says that orange is the color of insanity? ! I love it.

I think the typography on your GRC 175 header needs the most work. It's the only part of your design that doesn't feel like it belongs yet.

Hi Juan,
I really like your first design. Specially because your face can been seen better then on layout #2. But what if used a different color for the side maybe black just saying just to make the TMCC logo pop out leaving the orange color in the middle. I also like your typeface. great job :D

Hey Juan, the way you intermix the letters in your name is really cool. I think overall I like the first design better, it has the interesting text and stronger color scheme

Great job Juan,

I like the color and style of layout 2 better. Not a big fan or orange, but that's just me. If you want to focus your attention on something, work on the vertical GRC 175. It just doesn't fit right, the numbers and letters are fighting for prominance. Great work so far!

Heya Juan.

On the first one, I really like the shading job you did on the background so the text is mostly on white. The shapes at the bottom are also fun and I think the picture you chose to represent yourself is great. You do have a lot of shades of orange going on here too, but I'm not sure the more neon one in that huge box on the left is the best. Maybe fade it to better match the shade you used on your name, so it's not quite so jarring to the eye. Also, I absolutely love the idea of what you did with your name by using common letters, but I'm not sure it worked that well the way you have it looping around your face. I instinctively started at the bottom and was going to swing up the right, and then got confused. And the way your header is set up, with "175" by itself in a bubble, makes it seem like it doesn't go with anything and is somehow a standalone number.

On the second, I really like the contrast you did with your name in the header. I also like the way your styled "GRC 175" down the left side. The class name and your email at the bottom feels a little off for me, like it needs to be centered against the column of text instead of that whole section. Also, I'm not a big fan of the whole image area. It kind of feels like you put that in just to have some color and shapes going on, but it doesn't really offer anything to the page itself. Maybe if you tried to blend it in a little more and put some pertinent text or something in it, it would help. And I'm not sure if this is on purpose or not, but you have pink columns in the background that just make me think of the grid system, haha. Not sure if those are supposed to be there!

Personally, I like the first one better!

Juan,

I really like both color schemes but prefer the orange and black, but I always think orange and black look great. The typographical layout of your name looks great on the first on and I think the shapes add a nice design element. I agree with Rebecca that the GRC 175 font is out of place, the rest of your design is colorful and vibrant, maybe you should find a font that expresses that.
