Project 1 Preliminary

Heya Dustin.

On the first one, I do like the fancy feel of it. It's elegant, and the background where your copy will go looks just like an old piece of parchment, which fits nicely. The colors are set off nice and I love the wax seal at the top, and the quill. It would be more interesting if you could set up the quill as having just finished writing the last "l" on your name, just to give it some dynamic. The entire design does feel a little flat, so maybe add some border styles on the blue section, and some drop shadow or buttonizing on your link boxes. Also, the box you have for your email address makes me think of a bandage, haha.

On the second, I definitely love the almost grungy look. Excellent choice of font and the smudgy look to your picture. The colors are cool too, as they're so vibrant and eye-catching against the black background. The texture in the upper left hand corner keeps catching my eye as well; my brain has no idea why it's there, but my eye likes it. I like the idea of the cloud links too, but maybe try to do to their edges what your font does, that kind of gritty fade, to tie it all together. Also, the border on your picture seems a little plain too, so grunge it up!

Personally, I like the second one better! And dude, crowdSPRING seems like such an awesome idea. Are you a creative with them?

So I like the first design better, although I seem to be the odd-man out on this. What I like about it is the color palette, very good choices -- they colors seem to complement each other well. Also, I think the picture frame around the dog is really cool. The site also needs a picture of you, however, so I'd like to see maybe the graphic from design 2 in the same pictureframe as the dog.

As for design two, it is a very nice layout as well, again your color choices are very well thought out. The black background really sets off the colors too.

For both designs, when it comes time to put in the paragraph text, I'd like to see two columns, since otherwise the text would be too long to ready easily.

I'm also going to be another odd one here in preferring the first one, I do love the elegant feel of it and the colour scheme, and the seal with the pug is superb. The second one feels more personal, maybe if you find a way to merge the two together, or at least the pug because that is a very unique element. If you choose to go with the first, try playing with the leading between GRC 175 and your name, they seem a little too far apart as they are right now.

Hey Dustin,

Second one! I think that one is so much better than the first one. The hand drawn picture of yourself is awesome and the color choices are much better. It also doesn't have the abrupt cuts that the first one does. The second one looks like a website for a government branch or something along those lines. The first one feels like a website to promote the work of the artist who created it. I would focus my attention on the second one if I were you. Nice job!

The color scheme and eye movement is much better in the second design. But use the pug instead of that other random guy.
