My new rough
I didn't love my first roughs so I started over. Here is my new one for comment. Plus a new version... not sure it got better.

Re: My new rough
I like the concept of a dragon on your page! A couple things I might look at a bit more. The main thing I would change and improve upon is the type on a line. If you want mountains in the background I would just draw them in and put the type somewhere else. It just looks a bit clunky in spots and doesn't seem to fit with the design. Get rid of the outline around the type at the top right of the page. If you put it there for better contrast, just change your background color or change the color of the typeface to gain more contrast. Not sure if it is my screen but the outline is freaking out my eyes. One last thing but this is small. Instead of having a black tmcc logo at the bottom of your page you might think about making it the same color as the fall 2011 right next to it. Might help ground it into your design a bit better. And you might think about dropping off the "Truckee Meadows Community College" written at the bottom of the logo since it is quite small and I cant read it unless my face is 5 in away from the screen.

I agree with you about the TMCC logo, but not sure if I can change the color of their logo?
My biggest problem is how to visualize the line of type. Don't have a clear picture of where I really want it and how it should look. I like the sense of space that comes with the "big sky" above the horizon line. That is true to who I am. Not sure I am capturing that at all. So where to put the type? Until I can come up with a different concept I will leave it where it is.
Thanks you your ideas... I will work on the stroke around the text

Is the logo the one from the instructor? if it is just simple open in it illustrator and color match it or place it in your Photoshop document and just do a color overlay and match the color that way.

Yes for this project you can alter the logo. In real life you probably can not.
I like the top one with the shading you have, however I dont love the yellow/brown color. It reminds me of when I breastfed and the outcome in the diapers if you know what I mean. If your going for the whimsy of the dragon ( which I like a lot) then stick with whimsical colors maybe. Where is your body copy going to go?

The background color looks good on my laptop monitor but not on others which probably means my color on my laptop monitor is way off. Michael told me I could put the gradient in later in the CSS, so I will mess with the background then.

I really like the little bit of texture in the revised version, it helps pop the type and give it just a little more character. On an otherwise smooth design it looks quite nice.
