I think the modifications you made to the original design are well thought out and really tighten up the final design. I can't think of any changes that I would make, you have a really solid contender here. I am looking forward to seeing it as a live site.

I think the color and contrast are the strong points of this design. I agree with Rebecca that the brick background has some issues. It seems to detached from the other elements. Perhaps an illustrated brick background might work better. Great job overall.
