I think I like the first one more- the simple folders with colorful tags indicating the different pages of your site are cool- they kind of seem like those divider folders that you would find in a 3 ring binder. very "scholastic".

Count me in as another vote for the first one. It could use more unity regarding the links, there's too many different fonts going on there, but I do like the concept you have going. The links of your first rough are a good place to start regarding ideas for that.

I also like the first layout better than the second. I do agree that the TMCC running down the side works well on the second layout and finding a way to incorporate it in your final layout could turn out well. Nice work.
