Love your style! These are both awesome, so perhaps you could use elements of both. I like your personal logo on the first design (red), and the Reno cityscape. But in the second design the photo and 'about me' combo is badass, plus I also like your buttons for P1, P2, etc. - the subtle dots (1, 2 etc) is a nice touch. I'd smack those bits right onto design 1 and call it a day. Very cool.

Deitrik-
I love the font on the top version, especially at the bottom, I'm not so sure about using it all over the design.
I like the bottom one much more than the top because its cleaner and maybe thats because of the type you used. I think little bursts of color here and there would bring a lot more interest to your design.
Over all though, Great JOB!

Both of your designs are very professional, but the colored design seems more appealing. Maybe incorporate your logo from the second rough to the colored design as well as your photo.

Hi deitrik! like what charlie said, I like the red but I think the double photo shouldn't be there. Kinda went a little bit overboard with the glow and gradient on the buttons too.

Design #2 is really awesome, I like the buttons and the font. simple but effective. Have to agree with Charlie on the repeating image. Good job!!!
Re: Preliminary Critique for Project one
While prelim 1 is much easier to read, prelim 2 is much more interesting and attracts the eye. I'm new to GRC, so I was wondering if the font in prelim 2 is considered to be Section 508 compliant, or maybe that's not even an issue here?

The red gradient in your logo in the top design is really cool. I'd like to see it transferred to the rest of the red elements in the page, and you could place the photo of yourself behind the buildings. Also, the top design is pretty busy as far as typography. I'd pick 2 good typefaces with good contrast between them.

I would take the city background and color scheme from the first design and lay it into the second design. Very nice pieces, I like how you did your buttons as well. Juice.
Re: Preliminary Critique for Project one
The second rough is good. I like the giant project buttons, it goes well with the color design and makes it easy to navigate. The only thing that you might want to add is a ling to the tmcc site or possible adding there logo.

Re: Preliminary Critique for Project one
Like many of your fellow students, I'd say you've got two pretty strong designs here. I personally prefer the second one. It has a great faux-antique feel to it. I like the bold centered logo. I like the typography and I like the buttons and text placement. It's only downfall is that it's a little blah in some places.
I think a great tweak you could do would be to bring in the cityscape from your first layout and put it in the background of your second layout down toward the bottom. Make it the same height or a little taller than it is in the first design. I'd also look into some very subtle textures as well. Say a faintly nicked metal texture for the border, logo bar, and buttons. And perhaps a cracked leather or old book cover for the background dark gray. Also, be careful of the margins on your main type, particularly toward the bottom.
I'm not a fan of the revised version further down the thread. I think it's taking away too much of what made the second design cool and not adding anything back in really. I'd go back to your first second design (heh) and just play with that one slightly with textures and the cityscape.
You've got a really neat look and feel here. I'll be following along to see what you crank out for your finished piece.
