PRELIM FOR PROJECT 2

Post by Deitrik »

My first design I wanted to have a more urban feel to the design, the dance is Ryan Curren he is one of the instructors that work their, unfortunately I was unable to find good dance photos of the rest of the staff to put on here as well.

My second design I wanted a more elegant simplistic feel, that kind of had the ballet feel to it. I feel this design is probably the stronger of the two myself.

I think that the red and white design is the way to go. Wrapping that text around the guy that is dancing would be cool to see, just a suggestion. The headline typography is good, the body copy should probably be a sans-serif for readability issues.

The second design is very nice, I like the imagery for the header area... But the guy dancing is super cool, maybe add him into the design too?

I'm loving your first design so I suggest going that direction! I especially love the guy doing a hand-stand at the side and the red and white colors are a way to go. Good job on that!

One thing I would point out though is your body text seems to just float there. There must be a way to box it in? good start!

Hey Deitrik! Wow, this is a hard one... I'm having difficulty choosing one concept over the other because they are so different and both are executed well. I took a look at the Dance Unlimited original site and EEW! yeah, it's pretty horrendous! It doesn't provide any inspiration to help you in your design. I guess you might want to consider establishing a solid target audience. When I look at the urban style layout I don't expect such a studio to offer ballet classes and vice versa. I suggest attempting to incorporate the two concepts so it pertains to a wider variety of dance. Nice work in each rough though - very easy to navigate and well organized!

Oooh, another set of two very strong designs. Nice.

I'd go with the first one. It has such a great sense of contrast and motion. The dancer on the right immediately catches the eye while also moving it through the composition. I really like the use of color, along with not being afraid to leave some whitespace.

I think you could get away with an even lighter font for your bodycopy. Also, you might want to pay with your typographic hierarchy on your inner page. The monthly rates text block runs together a bit. Lastly, I'd shrink the navigation slightly to the right so there is a little more clearance between the buttons and the dancer's shin.

Nicely done!

Deitrik-
I enjoy the top design more than the bottom. The imagery and the typography you used are playful and appealing. I really enjoy this! Great job!

The one with JUST the ballet shoes. It's a picture that says DANCE, and you have a list of class times. Informative, which is what websites should be. A pretty website does nothing if it doesn't INFORM you first.
