Nice effort Remi. I like your first design. Go with that one.
I like the photographic background here. It immediately helps establish tone and feel to your webpage. I feel like I'm sitting on a beach looking up at the sky through the palm trees. I also like the equal size header and footer. They act as framing elements for your picture and give you high contrast areas to put important content. Your geometric right side navigation looks cool and works well with the design. It's also easily found and used as well. Aside from the bodycopy, contrast is nicely used throughout this piece.
My biggest issue with the design is the type. I'm losing it against the photographic background. I think a bolder typeface than Copperplate might help you out here. Perhaps use a set of shapes like you did with your navigation to back the type up so it's more visible. Maybe mirror the shapes you have with your navigation. Or maybe put a chunk of that type, like the class information, in your header or footer. Also, watch your margin on the TMCC logo. The bottom is a little tight. Also, move the "Project 2" text up a little bit in it's button so it's vertically centered.
A good start. I think with a couple of tweaks, you'll really have something here.

Hey Remi!
I saw that cool website you mentioned that inspired you while I was doing research too!
I really like your first design and how it's inspired by that website. The only problem I see with it is that the white font blends into your background image which makes it hard to read. I would make the background less faded so the type is easier to see.
Your second design is cute too. I like the soft colors and think your illustration is cute. I also really liked the font you used for your buttons! I would just mess around with the positioning of your buttons so it looks more organised. It kinda looks like the buttons for your projects are just floating near the bottom.
I feel like you could go with either design. But with some tweaking I feel like the first design is much stronger.

I like your first design best, I think, I really like the photo. I feel like the text on the right side is a little small and lacks some contrast, when compared to the size and contrast of your navigation boxes on the right, though. I like the second design also, the simplistic design with an added touch of the graphic is nice. I feel the same about the text size in that one too, though, seems a little small compared to the scale of some other elements. The color change to green for the class title seems srange to me, for a simplistic design I think maybe it should all be the same darker color...???

I like the image and layout in your first design. The white background on the links makes them easier to see.
I like the image used in your second site. The green text is hard to see with the color of the background.
