Project 1 Final Critique

Hi everyone, I'm Lauren and here is my final design for Project.
grc175_proj1_lsolinger_final.jpg

Since almost everyone who commented on the first critique liked the first design, I went with that one, and refined it with the suggestions given by everyone. Since the last critique I have added actual body text, deleted the project 1 button, took out the content box, modified my drawing a little, and added another illustration.

This design solves the assignment because it features buttons for the next two projects and resources, as well as a home button. It has my name and the program prominently displayed, as well as my email address. I have an about me section for the home page, and some illustrations for interest. I have paid careful attention to hierarchy as well as color design. I wanted something colorful and bold with some doodles I have done to show off my artistic style. I opted not to show photography stuff as suggested because this is a design class, not a photography class, and I felt any inclusion of that would distract from the true aim. However, I might add some as time goes on, perhaps in the resources/links section.

Hopefully this design is the best that it can be for now. As the class goes on I will probably change and edit it but for now I like the layout and design as it is now.

Thanks for reading all this, haha.

Hi Laruen -
I love what you did with your design! The addition of the cat made me smile and the contrast of energy between the shouting figure in the upper left and the quiet cat - I can almost see the tail slowly flicking - engages my interest. Your handwritten signature is a nice detail and overall I really like the way your colors are interacting. It's a fun design!

I love the look of your site. Your use of shapes and colors blends well together. All of your text is easy to read and see. The personal touches you added shows your creative style and your personality.

The well-rendered cat in the corner keeps things balanced and brings attention to your email address. Nice jerb

Yes, the changes made it really good. I like the kitten on the bottom! The only change that I can see that might make it better, would be to have your name the same color as that dark purple you used instead of black. I think it would unify your color scheme better.

Your illustration speaks so loudly it's great. The values also are great being that it pulls the viewers eyes to where you want them and the proportions are well in text size and fonts. A small edit i'd do though is to change the color of your buttons cause they almost blend into the darker values.

I would like everyone to know that yes, I did notice I put 2015 instead of 2016. Oops. I will fix that for the actual version that's gonna go online, haha.

I like the iconoclastic artist style of this design ... breaking the rules and conventions of tradtional web design while portraying a whimsical freshness. Can't wait to see how you build it out!

I really like your style in this design. It's very cartoony yet still reflects your personality. I thing you did a great job with the visual movement. Good job!

Lauren,

I am so glad you ended up sticking to this layout! I know you made some minor changes, but overall I like how you kept it the same as your first design. Well Done! I really enjoy the style, colors, artwork and how you added your signature to the bottom of the body copy! I wouldn't change a thing! Great Job Lauren!
