GRC 175 Learning and Discussion Forum

Here's my final design, though it can always be adjusted further.
I decided to go with my first design, from the previous two. Overall I enjoyed how it felt a lot more and it's a more interesting project for me, though I do still like the concept of a book website.

I adjusted some of my font choices and colors, as well as the arrangement of the lower elements a bit (resizing and repositioning mostly the boxes). These fonts match the image better and help accentuate its personality, I feel. I also adjusted the image itself, removing a bright red spot that Aries informed me of.

For those who were wondering, the image is a screenshot of the city Irithyll, from the video game Dark Souls 3. It's a beautiful location and unfortunately not real, though it does take inspiration from real architecture. For a similar city but in warm colors, there's also Anor Londo from Dark Souls 1, specifically.

I see the improvement from the last layout and I am glad you chose the font that you did to fit the theme going on with your picture. Only concern I have is the shapes at the bottom feel empty slightly, possibly due to the fact you have type in the shape above the body font and not down bellow.

Hey Your Final design look really good the background works extremely well with the rest of the design you match the colors up great. as to what to improve, the Font for your nav bar it a little hard to read.

Your design is really great. Hierarchy, spacing, distribution were clearly your top priority and its working. Your monochromatic color palette gives it a dark, mysterious, magical touch from your imagery, which is great.

I really love your high contrast despite the monochromatic palette.

The one thing is that it feels too blocky. It's redundant to have containers within a container. Give each element the importance it needs. You have a strong unity already, no need to enclose your elements that much.

Really liking your image and also what you did to the top half of your site page. There is a theme that you pulled together very well. The only thing I notice is that the shapes at the bottom of the page- the best way I can describe it is the top half of the page is very full and vibrant but the bottom half feels a bit empty. Also, like the shape in your image too.

I like the type changes you made. It makes it easier to read yet still stylistic. Widening your content at the bottom also works well. I still feel like your email should go somewhere else so that the focus is on your name on on the "Welcome".

Gives me a Harry Potter vibe. Type changes are great and color changes are too.
They assist in the overall dark, gloomy effect that you are trying to convey. The only
thing I saw is the placement of the bottom Dimond, it seems to me that's not centered
all the way.

Love the top half of this, but the bottom seems a bit disconnected for some reason. Maybe try complementing the upper picture by adding drop shadows to your text boxes? Great color choices btw

You've certainly captured the crushing atmosphere of Dark Souls, I'll give you that. I especially like the Gothic type. It's so atmospheric without being illegible. For such a dreary feel, the design actually has a lot of contrast to it. Your lights are just light enough to stand out against the darkness. The picture is well chosen and I like how your name and title almost makes a stained glass window looking out onto a blighted medieval city. Your navigation is well placed and easy to use, too.

I would have done your "GRC 175, Web Design & Publishing I, Fall 2017, TMCC" in your Gothic type. It stands out a little too much with the rest of the highlighted type being so Gothic. The composition doesn't really need all the little boxes and cruft below the image. I think the headline and type columns would have established shapes enough and then you can establish visual interest with a texture. The margins on your navigation is way too tight.
