For one design I chose a simple approach trying to let the main content be the focus. that is the one with the rainbow ribbon effect. As for the other design I was trying for a even balance of both background and content.

Hi, these designs are really interesting! At the moment I prefer the rainbow ribbon designs. However the other designs could work too if you lowered the opacity of the color or use a white text with it.

I think I like the blue and green one better. The ribbon one reminds me of windows screensaver. I'm not fond of the red scribble, but if you lowered the opacity of the blue and green scribbles and maybe layered them, make it a texture perhaps for the background and place the blue box on top, that might be cool. I agree with the prior assessment that black text is hard to read. There seems to be a lot of weird white empty space in some areas. I'm not saying to eliminate it completely, just maybe to not have as much of it. Good job.

Hm. I can't really give you full feedback since you're missing a lot of elements, including images and type. But, I like what I do see here. You've got two strong ideas that make great use of color and gradient. I like where your head's at.
Of your two designs, I like the white one with the gradient ribbon best. It's very clean and makes for a good backdrop for any layout you might want to put on it. I'd recommend not using black boxes. They seem too harsh against it. I'd use layout and positioning of the content to make alignments and shapes. Think Bauhaus designs. Margin and alignment are going to be critical on this one so feel free to grab and study lost of examples of clean, simple website design. For your type, I'd recommend a clean sans-serif type like Gotham. You have a clean design with lots of (literal) white space. Your font and typography should reflect that. Keep your design very tech and forward looking to go with the CGI gossamer ribbon.
I would have liked to have seen more information in these designs to give a more thorough critique, but that's my two cents on what you've provided..
Good effort!

Wonderful. A lot of placeholder graphics, but just wonderful. I also agree that the rainbow ribbon is the best. There seems to be a theme with the white backgrounds being the best.
