Project 01 Prelim Critique

Hello everyone! Here are my four roughs for Project 01.

The first concept is all about having the background image be the hierarchy of the website. I was aiming for a calm and modern consistency for this concept. The fonts that I chose is script (for my headline/name) and a light, modern typeface for any body copy. The concept is very simple, the color palette that I was aiming for were pastel colors with the color black being the visual contrast on the website.

The second concept has more details, making the text box backgrounds pop out in the composition. This concept gives a more traditional type website with a hint of being modern. The colors I was aiming for in this concept was cotton candy, using pastel blue and pink. These colors will remain consistent, however, any image that is involved in the website does not have to be pink or blue. The typefaces that I used are a little more bolder than the first concept.

Here are my 2 inspirational websites:

https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/best ... signs-list

I found these websites inspirational because it gives me a lot of ideas of creating my roughs for Project 01. It helps me acknowledge what makes an eye-catching website, using visual techniques (such as consistency, hierarchy, colors, and typefaces). Looking at these portfolio examples does help inspire me to create what I want to represent to my audience.

Hey Trixia, both designs look fantastic. They both are very clean and modern with a great pallet of colors. I honestly do not think one design is better than the other. Both are similar but in a different layout and just look really nice. If it were up to me I thnk the first one would be my pick. It is easy to read and is visually appealing to the eye. The only thing I could think off to improve the design is maybe changing the TMCC logo from green to white. It would match the pallet a lot better because right now it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Hi Trixia,

I think all your roughs look really nice! I'll specifically mention that I think you chose really good typefaces that work well together and with the overall "feel" of the layouts.
The only thing I noticed that could be fixed is the word "advertisement" should be plural ("advertisements") unless you're only wanting to do 1 billboard. :)

Hi Trixia,
I really like both designs, but I think my favourite is the second one with the ocean picture. I think the colors and personality of it represent you better. I think you should lower the opacity of the link box and maybe the about me box and have the image be seen through the back a little. It may give it some nice movement to your design. They look stunning though!

Hi Trixia!

I think Keanu Reeves would say these are breathtaking. I really like your 'clouds' desktop layout. Everything on that layout is spaced super well and it allows the layout to breathe. I like how you placed your menu bar to align left instead of center like the rest of your layout because it makes the menu bar really stand out! I think the mobile version of 'clouds' is a good compliment to the desktop version. You could improve this design further by making tmcc's information and logo sit in it's own box so there isn't so much empty space between your links and the tmcc information. This would also help your audience's understanding of the site because you would be showing them that the links and information in your about me box are not related to the tmcc information on the bottom. Nice job!

Hey, I think your first design works best because it seems to the most visually organized. I think the type works well with the colors of the backdrop. Play more with your body copy because it isn't very readable and people might get lost and lose interest.

Hi Trixia,
I hope that you like your second layout as much as I do. I can see how the first one has the most detail and there is more choice with navigation. I would totally use the first layout navigation options with the second layout images. Adjusting the opacity would be a great option to heighten the hierarchy of the text. Thanks for sharing.

Oh nice! There are a good set of modern designs you've got here, Trixia. I like the first one better. It's cleaner to me.

You took a super clean rule of three layout and dropped in an excellent background image. Great choice in image. It's immediately calming and gives the entire design a soft feel. Which is nice as the rest of the design is clean and modern and hard edged. Your header and footer function well as frames. I like your color choices, or lack thereof. You realized you had a great image and just leaned into it with a super high contrast black and white layout. Good use of transparency too on both your header and footer. I especially like seeing how the different background colors react with your image. Your typography is quite good as well. Your sans-serif and script types play well together. I like the use of your name as the largest and most dominant piece of content. Your computer design uses margin and alignment extremely well, too. You have almost perfect use of proximity without crowding.

I don't think your mobile design needs the transparent black background. I can read your copy just fine against your background image on your computer layout. I don't see the need to change for mobile. Speaking of mobile, watch your alignment on mobile. I'd make sure everything ends on a common left and right edge. Also, your horizontal rule doesn't need to be that big and bold. It's the same as that background. If it works well on your computer layout, and your horizontal rule does, there's no need to change it on the mobile version. Lastly, on both your mobile and computer versions, I'd recommend using the white TMCC logo, that way it's hideous lime-olive green won't clash with your high contrast design.

Good work!

I really like both of your designs because they look really professional. A suggestion others have made for mine is to make the logo a different color because it stands out too much. Maybe making it white will help it look in unity with the rest of the web page. I also feel like maybe using a different font for the body copy, maybe one that is heavier to balance it out.
