Project 1 Preliminary

Here are my roughs for preliminary critique! I found these websites very helpful for the necessities of a homepage, and good design tips for modern trends. I especially loved the color schemes found on Pinterest! The official Vogue site had a simplistic style with one main image for the homepage, which I thought to keep in mind for one of my roughs. Looking forward to some feedback!

Hey Mackenzie, both designs turned out really well! They are both very unique and really stand out. Personally I find the second design to be just a little bit stronger. I like the different layers you have with the first design for the mobile page, but once you get to the webpage I feel like it doesn't look as great. If you still layered everything horizontal with the webpage then I think it would look better. Also just having P1, P2, P3 for the project links can confuse the audience. The color choice and fonts are really nice on both designs. I find the second design to be a little more organized and just looks better to the eye. The graphic in the middle is perfect and it's easy to navigate through the design The only thing I would change on the second design would be the size of the type. Even when I had the image in full view it was still a little hard to read about you. Overall nicely done!

Hi Mackenzie,
Your roughs are all really good and fun to look at! I love the artwork and how everything contributes to the feeling of artistic fun.
My only complaint would be that the font used for the body copy and links on the "dripping" design are a bit hard to read. It may be that the font is too thin or just too small.

Hello,
I love your designs they are absolutely cute. I do like the second one better mainly because it is cuter and navigation is much better than the first. The first one navigation can pop out better but imagery is still cute
Great job

Hi Mackenzie,
I like both designs, but I think the second one is my favourite. The illustrations and graphics compliment each other very nicely. I think it would be cool if you added paintbrushes next to your buttons, just a thought! The design feels very creative and I think you should switch out the grey with a different color to make it more eye-catching. All in all, looks stunning!

Hi Mackenzie!
Your logo on your paintbrush layout is awesome. You look focused and ready to get down to business! The shapes on your paintbrush layout are really interesting and give the page some fun movement. For your mobile layout, your body copy is going to be really hard to read if you're planning on fitting that many characters per line. Maybe less characters per line will make it more mobile friendly?
The hierarchy in this layout is also a bit funky to me. I see your logo first and then move on to the buttons for projects 2-4 but after that the paintbrushes and background color are the main things moving my eye down the page but they aren't giving my eye enough of a reason to stop and look at the information in your body copy. If you made your headline text (about me, resources) proportionate to the paintbrushes I think that would help stop your audience's eye as it moves down the page.
For your illustrated layout I like the dots you used and how you used the white dot in the top right corner to activate that space. That dot does stand out a bit too much for me because there is only one white dot while there are two or three grey and black dots throughout the layout. Your design might benefit from adding another white dot so the one in the corner doesn't stand out so much and look weird being the only one.
My final comment is about the buttons on your illustrated layout. I understand why you would want to align the home button to your projects buttons in order to create an aligned column but I think it is working against making your design really great. Placing so much space in between the grey dot and home makes it hard for my eye to associate the grey dot and home as a single form. I think if you aligned home to the left side of project your buttons would look for unified and easily identifiable as interactive buttons.

I love your color scheme! It works so well and makes everything seem so clean. I like both, but visually i like the paint dripping one. I think using the second one would be better though, because it seems more personal. Therefor, I would go with the one where the girl is the center of the design. I would maybe get rid of the repeating circles and play with lines or other shapes, just a thought! Good job!

HI Mackenzie,
These site designs are awesome. The image of you as an animation is unique and work well with the warm yellow and gray tones of the background. I would consider both images of the layout are both pleasing and work well together. Thank you for sharing your works to look at and critique.

Hi Mackenzie, I really like both of your designs. I really like the illustration in the second one. I think you could go with either but I am more drawn to the layout of the second rough. I think it represents you more.
