GRC 175 Learning and Discussion Forum

Hey y'all. As you can see below, I have decided to stick to the cleaner design from the previous critique (btw, thank you all for the help!). It was tough deciding which design to choose for the final critique since it was an even split with y'all between designs. So, let's talk about what changed. First, the nav bar was pointed out being needed to be more defined. Now, I am not too set with what I did, but I just extended the space and added black bars between links. I'm sure I can think of ways to further improve the nav bar, but as of now, that is what I got. Next, some of y'all pointed out that the overall design looked boring (which I agree) so instead of a white background I chose a darkish blue, and used orange for headlines and shapes. I decided to include this color scheme from my other design because I enjoyed how well they compliment each other.

I kept the header white because I, an some of you, liked the font for my name and with it being black text on a white background really compliments the font and makes it pop out a bit. The biggest change to this design compared to the previous critique is the removal of the collage of my previous GRC school projects and exercises. The previous collage idea looked like a mess, the alignment of certain images weren't correct and made the collage look floaty. My initial change was to delete some images so that the collage can form a noticeable shape while also in a frame. However, I didn't like how it turned out, maybe because the original collage idea left a bad taste in my mouth and when looking at the new one it reminded me of the old one which I didn't like. So instead I decided to just showcase one image at a time and have arrows on the sides to switch to different images. I think that's pretty cool if you ask me. So yeah, here is what I did for project one and I hope you've enjoyed them.

I like how you add a little slideshow to show your work and I think it helps save up more space. Love the font you use for your name and the other typefaces are readable, so that's good! I have no problem with the layout, so keep up the great work!!

I love the color choices i think the yellow and teal work well together. Good job!

I like how this design turned out. I love the idea of being able to scroll through all your previous work just like a gallery. The typography is easy to read and fun. Great work!

Changing from the collage to a click-through gallery spot is a great idea! It cleans up the space and your pieces won't have to compete with each other for attention on the page. I like it. And the layouts overall look nice too.

Lol! Even though it's a clean design you've still managed to drag a lot of whimsy in. Personally, I blame Mallard Monroe there. That and your damnable 80's TV show credit font you used for your name and titles. Your colors work well together. There's enough contrast to create visual interest and the dark colors attract the eye down the website into the content. The dark teal and orange play nicely with each other, too. I like the minimalist flavor of the whole thing. It's very clearly intended as a scrapbook and to get out of the way of the images and text. You also use margins pretty well throughout the entire thing

Your bodycopy's tracking is far too broad. It's breaking the letters up and making it hard to read. Also, the dividers between the buttons are very thick. I think they'd work fine at half or even a third of their current thickness. There's too much space between your images and your bodycopy on your mobile design.

Hi Jessie! I really like your font that you chose. I like the shade of blue you have there too. It really contrasts nicely with your ducky. I feel that maybe it could could take up a little more space, I think there might be too much empty space on the mobile version.

The final designed turned out really well! Teal and orange are a great combo!

I love the colors you used! That teal color is one of my favorites! I think the final design has come together really nicely. It's pleasing and interesting to look at, and it really easy to navigate.
If I were to change anything I would drag your Image and body copy down a little to be a bit more vertically center in your computer version.
