Project 01 Final

Hello everybody,
My name is Cedar and here is my project 01 final. I tried to keep my design simple and sleek, because of that I wanted to use a lot of white and some simple geometric shapes. I found that with just those two alone it did not feel like enough so I decided to add some opaque trees to the back ground which I had used in one of my preliminary pieces. This helps tie the website to my name as well as the small tree symbol I am using. I think this solves the project requirements as it gives me a web page that is easy to navigate and I hope visually pleasing. Below are my informational links:
https://www.wix.com/blog/2020/05/how-to ... a-website/
https://www.websitebuilderexpert.com/de ... -websites/
I used a combination of both these websites as guides to the process. When working on projects like this I find it difficult to think of it as one large project and need to break it into steps, these sites gave me convenient lists to break up my progress.

Hi Cedar! These are great, I really like the use of the trees and tying that in with that logo, you could almost bring in the color of the logo into other parts of the design. I would try making the navigation white, right now there's a bit of a contrast issue, the line length on the body text of the mobile design is a bit small, you could maybe decrease the font size and the space between the lines of text, otherwise these look great!

Your webpage is looking very good, cedar, trees, outdoor. Some local wood emporium.

Hey Cedar!
First off, I really love the way your name ties in with your site theme of the mountains and cedar trees!
Being a born and raise local Northern Nevadan myself, anything representing the sierras and the mountains I instantly have an affinity for.
I also think its awesome how you're using the tree for a logo element. Your logo stamp up in the top left corner with the C enveloping the M is also really nice, clean and professional looking. In terms of the layout, really smart use of the division you did there with the diagonal white section housing your "about me" info and the other half being the trees along with the navigation. The asymmetrical balance of content and negative space is really pleasing to the eyes and makes it easy to flow through.
Just a tiny critique - I'd watch your margins along the perimeter as your email, tmcc logo and the "GRC 175..." line at the bottom are really close to the edge. I would just line up the margin spacing to be the same as your about me copy all around the perimeter. Same with your navigation and logo stamp and just bring those in just a tad. Same suggestion for the mobile as well.
Overall though great layout thats aesthetically and functionally pleasing! Really looking forward to seeing the final build of this thing! Btw between this class and or 220 class with Dan, I feel like I never leave my desk enough to go be on the slopes!

Is that a drawing of a Cedar as your accent image there, Cedar. Lol! Cheeky.
This one's a seriously good use of contrast. Everything pops out and separates nicely. It pushes out your type and makes it easy to read. Your navigation is easy to see and use, too. I like the clearly delineated image area and content area. That diagonal like serves well to break up the boxiness that's so common on the web. It really hides that websites are basically built with building blocks. A good selection with your pictures and colors as well. It creates a bright, alpine feeling, that goes well with your personal picture. A good little personal logo in the corner too.
Your bottom margin is a little tight. I would have picked up your footer text a little bit to give a bit more room at the bottom. I also would have pushed "Contact:" over to the right so it's left edge matches up with the left edge of your bodycopy. And pushed your class info and logo a little to the left to give it a similar amount of room to breathe on the right side. I think your bodycopy didn't need to be quite that bold.
Nice work!

Hello Cedar!
I like that you used the tree graphic from the business card in your website design. It really ties the two projects together. I can see that business card linking to this website. It's what I wanted to do with mine as well, although I can't say I pulled it off as well as you did. I think you should pull the class/contact info just a little bit up from the bottom of the page so that the margin is equal to the margin at the top between the top of the page and the navigation bars on both versions.

Hey cedar
I like your design and how it's all neat with the contrast.
Your buttons inside of the forest picture, to my eyes, vibrate together, so maybe think of putting a slightly white box in the background with really low opacity, so it doesn't do that as much, but besides that, I like it.

Hey Cedar,
I really like the angles you're playing with! It's fun and unique! I also really like the little tree. I like the boldness of the "projects," "about," and "resources." They're easy to see and read. It's not too hidden away in the background. I love the picture you used of the trees too. there's a theme and I think you nailed it!

The logo tied into the motif of the tree photo is rad, I really like that. I really like how the composition is bisected. I think one thing I would change is the margin of the "Hello". For me it could have worked on the same margin as the body type. Altogether, I say this is a success.

I really like the asymmetrical balance you worked out between your imagery and your body copy. I also like the way that your name and icon tie together conceptually. The only thing I might adjust is your navigation at the top, the black background on the image just needs a little something to lift it off the page. I was thinking a thin stroke of grey or a small effect to help with that. Otherwise a great start and I look forward to seeing the next step.
