E.K. Fulton, Project One Final

Post by ekfulton »

Hi everyone. So people thought my preliminary designs looked like a politician/real estate agent's web site and not so much like a graphic designer's page. This is really funny because before I started school at TMCC, I was in fact a real estate agent. I guess old habits die hard. Anyways, based on that feedback, I created a third design which, I hope, doesn't feel like a real estate agent home page. I went with a black and white color palette, with a few accents of dark magenta for a splash of color. A few notes: 1) the 'contact' button will open a popup that will show my picture and my email address. 2) The 'projects' and the 'links' buttons, when clicked, will expand like an accordion downwards to show links to respective pages. That is why there is space below the 3 buttons. 3) the picture and crosshatch bar will actually be a slideshow: the picture and crosshatch graphic will scroll left replaced by a new photo and crosshatch graphic scrolling in from the right, so the effect will look like the pictures are moving along a kind of 'belt' in a continuous scroll from right to left. There will be 4 images, each of which is a black and white stylized photo of area landmarks taken a t night. The interval will be approx 10 or 15 seconds per picture, although I'll have to test that to fine tune a balance between being able to see the picture for an adequate amount of time, yet scrolling to happen in a quick enough manner so that the page visitor actually sees the scroll. Here the design:

Hi Edward - I think your overall layout and design of the picture frame is wonderful. It's clean, strong, professional, etc. I feel like the font you've chosen for your name is a bit too expressive, but on the other hand, I really like how you've used that texture in your menu buttons. It's a great tie-in. I would make the "GRC175..." info larger. It's so small, it almost looks like legalese at this point.

Are you into film noir by any chance? That's the feeling I get when looking at your design. It's dark and mysterious.

Hi Edward,

I like this one much better. I really do like the darkness and the photo goes well with the colors. I'm not sure about the dark color on your name, however, it gets a bit lost. I like that you used an expressive font but it is a tiny bit hard to read. Otherwise, really nice work! :)

I love the color pallet that you ended up going with. Your image in the middle of the page is just great too! Good job on this project buddy!

Heya E.K.

Aww, I do miss the super-minimal designs you had, but I like this. The gray-on-gray is very professional and I like your idea of rotating pictures. The magenta color you chose really pops too. I'm not a big fan of the font/texture you're using for your name and links though. It feels kind of messy/sloppy against the sleek professionalism I see everywhere else. Maybe try adding a hint of the magenta somewhere in your footer too, to kind of bind it all together, and see how you like it.

Great job- I'm definitely not picking up a " real estate agent" vibe from your new layout. Because if the grayscale and reddish hue you've chosen, I almost get a gangster movie vibe- like the cover of "scar-face". (not a bad thing at all- I think that style is iconic!!!). I'm interested in your photographs though- is there anyway you might consider enlarging them in the upper bar within your design?
