GRC 175 Learning and Discussion Forum

Hello there everyone,

My name is Rosa Rodriguez. I have always wanted to know how to create awesome websites. Years ago, I heard that flash and dreamweaver were the programs to use to build websites. So I taught myself flash and built my portfolio online. Never listen to what you hear, because from my understanding now, flash is slowly dying and is limited in use. Plus flash is a memory hog.

I did just recently build a website in dreamweaver (in grc 119) and it felt so mathematical.

My hopes is to understand everything there is to know about web design and how to make it look cool as funk. I'm even considering going to UNR for information systems to know programming and coding even further. I know it's completely nerdy and I don't know if I'm up for the challenge.

I noticed everyone so far have said personal stuff, I don't know if thats the requirements for the introduction post. So here goes:

• Dark blue is an awesome color to embrace.
• Popeyes chicken is the best stuff on earth (it was cooked in heaven).
• Me and procrastination used to be bffs but I want to break it off.
• I want to know it all but not work to know it? Kinda like a dung beetle watching a beetle couple working for hours on their ball of sh*t. I'd be that beetle stealing their ball...

Don't feel too bad. Dreamweaver and Flash were the tools to build websites back then, but Flash was not widely adopted by mobile devices (due to being, as you say, a memory hog) and is now being phased out. Dreamweaver is still around, but most websites are being built now by hand coding them in HTML and CSS. You guys will get a good start on learning those programming languages in this class. One benefit you guys have as well is your fellow students, this class is also a requirement for the CIT Web Development degree so a fair number of students each year are programmers coming in to learn design. They can give you pointers on the code.

If you are interested in programming, I'd look at that degree (Web Development) before going to UNR, cheaper and more of your credits will transfer.

You'll know how to build "cool as funk" websites by the end of this class if you stick with it. I promise.
