Hello! My name is Katrina Allen and I am a Cincinnati, OH native and have been living in Reno for the last 5 years. My actual last name for the past 2 years is Alera, but I just haven't gotten around to changing it for school. My husband and I decided to combine our last names - Allen + Spera = Alera
I currently work as Lead Tech Support for a small company based out of Ohio for both software and hardware for hospitals. We make a software and sell hardware that allows hospitals to track the temperatures for their refrigerators and freezers, etc, and alerts them if there is a problem.
I've done some website development in the past. I am taking this (and other graphic classes over time) for fun. I'm looking forward to learning design (and programming) for mobile vs computer vs "things". In the past I've approached it from a very coding aspect for just computers, but I know my "make it pretty" skills are lacking.
I am a leader for a group in Reno called "The Empire of Chivalry and Steel" which is a medieval historical re-enactment group. It is pretty fun. We work a number of events through the year, like the Valhalla Ren Fair, the Celtic Festival, the Makers Fair, a number of conventions, and we have a number of tournaments and feasts through the year. I also have a billion and one hobbies. I enjoy sewing, crafting, crochet, aikido, cosplaying, pen to paper rpg, gardening, hiking, etc, etc. If I had to guess what my ultimate goal for the future is, it would probably be to become a database developer.
Pleased to meet'cha!

Hi there Katrina. Great to have you in class. We'll have you making things pretty in no time. Have fun learning to mind control people via design!
I think you'll be surprised how easy it is (from a technical perspective anyway) to set a website up to display across a variety of devices. Most people are like, "that's it?". Yes, that's it.
