About Building Restoration

What is building restoration and what is the driving force behind what we do? The answer is simple, but very meaningful... To restore is to renew, build up again, and re-establish. This definition describes the act of restoring something to the condition of its original creation. Many contractors, architects, engineers, heritage committees, and personal homeowners find value in buildings with distinct architectural or historically significant features, the likes of which are virtually extinct in today's building practices. Being true to this spirit often involves repair, partial replacement, or rebuilding of items using original techniques, materials, and styles in order to produce historically accurate results. At times, it is more feasible to blend newer methods of repair and construction with older building features. When incorporated properly these restoration/renovation projects display the merits of both new and older styles. Agencies such as Parks Canada and the Ontario Heritage Foundation are two driving forces that promote and protect our architectural heritage!
