Graphic Arts and Media Technologies (GAMT) help the world communicate with visually engaging content across a wide range of delivery systems and media formats. The industry offers a variety of job opportunities that can lead to employment as graphic artists, production artists, art directors, print technicians, web designers, videographers, video editors, 3D modelers, 2D animators, and more.
The graphic arts program at TMCC has been around for more than 30 years, is widely recognized and respected in the local industry, and is the most comprehensive program in Northern Nevada. Instruction includes the use of industry-standard graphics software, and GRC/VIS computer labs are equipped with the latest Macintosh computers with support scanners, printers, a sound booth for creating and capturing audio, a stop-motion animation lab, and a complete print shop with screen printing facility.
The GAMT program teaches the theories and applications necessary to get a job in this creative, exciting, and expanding field. Most classes are interactive and taught hands-on. The GAMT program offers classes that range from introductory to advanced, and classes are offered during days and evenings. Classes cover a wide range of topics, including foundational and advanced design skills, history of graphic design, use of color, typography, drawing for animation, storytelling, manual production skills, and software techniques using Macintosh computers and the Adobe Creative Suite. Software taught includes Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere, Dreamweaver, and Maya 3D.
