Castles and Cathedrals

The Midlands of England have more than their share of old world architecture. Partrishow church is a fine example. Partrishow is situated on the southern slopes of the Gader Range about 8 kilometres north of Abergavenny with a wonderful panoramic view of the lower Grwyne Fawr. It boasts some of the most renowned examples of Saxon architectural adornments. Each church has its own rich history and stories. Church tours are one way to take them all in.

Castles are another draw of the region. Wales is often called the Land of Castles, and it's not surprising, as it's home to some of Europe's finest surviving examples of medieval castle construction. Step back in time to discover what life was like for the Mercians of 1200 A.D. with a visit to Careg Cennen. or any of the other 108 castles that grace the Midlands countryside.

Mountains and Lakes

Water is inseparable from the Welsh landscape - whether it is seeping surreptitiously, flowing peacefully, cascading sublimely .... or coming down in torrents! It is forever changing and refreshing the scene.

At the eastern extremity the Black Mountains (plural) rise up steeply from the English midlands. To the west, the eponymous Black Mountain (singular) covers a vast expanse of remote and lonely moorland beyond the sources of the Tawe and Usk.
